Seagate Backup Plus 3 TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive for Mac (STCB3000900) review

Outside of Seagate Backup Plus 3 TB USB 3.0 Desktop External Hard Drive for Mac (model STCB3000900) being a huge 3TB of space, the drive itself is incredibly quick when connected over USB 3.0 in backing up your files. I tested with Time machine on one Macintosh and simply dragging files to it on another. As expected, the older machine with USB 2.0 was slower, but we knew that coming into the review.
This Seagate 3TB external drive demands external power due to the sheer size and I think that has something directly to do with the issue many people see in the drive ejecting without warning. What this means is that the Macintosh OS suddenly thinks it is unplugged. As I mention in the video I think it is the Seagate drive going into some sort of power save mode and spinning the drives down. When the Mac OS sees this it thinks that the Seagate has been pulled without proper ejection and gives the error. This is incredibly bad if you consider leaving this plugged into to do automatic Time machine backups. They would fail since the Mac does not think the drive is there.

If either Seagate or Mac gets a fix the rest of the performance and capabilities are great. The built in automated social backup for Flickr, Facebook and YouTube is a time saver and hopefully a photo/video saver. After you load the required software from the drive and then authenticate with whichever services you desire, the Seagate will go out and begin grabbing all those media files from you networks. You can even go in reverse (with some YouTube limitations). Many people never back their phones and tablets up but upload to the social networks so this is a simple step to solve that backup problem. I do hope they add other social networks like Instagram and pictures from Google Plus.
Numerous other reviewers have shows the speed of the drive. I highlight in the video the inclusion of a couple foreign power adapters. This is great for travel and often overlooked by many portable drive manufacturers. Included are UK and Northern Europe adapters as I show in the video.
This is definitely not made to be carried around in our bag due to the weight. Look at something like the Seagate Slim 500 GB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive for Mac (model STCF500102) for that type of feature that I just reviewed. If they get the issue with the ejection worked out this could be a 5 star solution. I have had the drive months with no hint of failure as other mentioned.
