Sametime for iOS and Android out - system requirements
IBM has made the official announcement for Sametime Mobile for iOS and Android. You will need to make some verification you are runing the right components and versions before you are up and running
Sametime 8.5.2 IFR1 must be installed on your Sametime Proxy server
So the first step it to make sure you have a Sametime Proxy server installed. I know a lot of organizations are unsure where this new Websphere based technology fits into chat and presence.
The Sametime Proxy server is a web based layer that sits between your users and the Sametime Community server. It does need separate hardware from the Community server and will run on Websphere. This provides the web interface that the new iOS and Android clients render. This is unlike the BlackBerry client that natively runs on the device and does not require the new Sametime Proxy server.
You will need to make sure you grab the new IFR1 to enable support for multiple new operating (think OSX Lion) and mobile system. This also includes enhancements around Sametime United Telephony (SUT) in the mobile space giving better features and functions to mobile clients.
I hope that simple post clarifies what some customers have asked and I have heard discussed about the necessary pieces to allow iOS and Android users to show presence and chat functionality.
