Review: Seagate Expansion 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive

I had the chance to review the Seagate Expansion 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive. I was impressed with the performance, simplicity and packaging.
I previously reviewed the Seagate Expansion 500 GB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive STBX500100 and the 1 TB drive is exactly as simple and impressive. I usually take some of my tests and hand the device to the kids to check simplicity.
I appreciate the easy cardboard box with sturdy insert that is also recyclable. No impossible to open bubble pack that anyone can lose a hand on. That might be strange to include in the review but I find compact and recycled packaging responsible.
They quickly opened the box, took the drive and USB 3.0 cable and hooked it to a new laptop. They also put it into a slightly older laptop with a USB 2.0 port with no issues.
With no external power this is great for moving files, music, videos and whatever else a student or business traveler would need. The size fits easily into any briefcase cell phone slot, backpack or shirt pocket.
I know Seagate calls it an Expansion 1 TB USB 3.0 Portable External Hard Drive, but it becomes simple and portable data with terrific transfer speeds. With the backwards compatibility there is no need to worry about this working with most every laptop (unless you somehow have a USB 1.0 slot somewhere). This drive will then work with anything new that has the USB 3.0 blue tabbed slot.
Now the warranty has caused some concern. The one year limited warranty sounds limiting but I am unsure what a longer warranty would give? Unless you are concerned about losing data, having it only on a small portable drive would not be the best choice. I can see concern over the plug area and cable. The drive gets the one year and the able gets 90 days. It also does not cover data loss and states so in the warranty card.
This drive does state it is made for Windows but a simple format and it is mac ready as well. For the price it is a great drive and worth the investment.
