Notes client and Symantec issue and workaround
Tags :Symantec Notes notes2 nlnvp
The IBM Notes client and Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) have been battling each other lately with crashes for the notes2 process. The NLNVP.dll file seems to be the culprit. Symantec places the following line in the notes.ini file of your client:
EXTMGR_ADDINS=NLNVP.DLL
With this line SEP is enabled for the Lotus Notes Email Auto-Protect and seems to cause severe issues on some client machines. If the line is removed and the Lotus Notes client restarted everything is fine. However SEP keeps putting it back into the notes.ini
Forums report everything from changing the version of the installed SEP folder to removing the endpoint protection part entirely that looks at Notes in real time scanning. Both of those go around the conflict but seemed to work.
Symantec has finally seemed to take notice and RU7 MP3 was supposed to fix it.. Then the forums lit up again
It looks like this was fixed in 12.1 RU2 (12.1.2015.2015), but re-appeared in 12.1 RU2 MP1 (12.1.2100.2093)I added a new SEM server just recently, and used the April release info. I had been running 12.1.2015.2015 prior to this without any problems. Installed this on ten PCs, and suddenly each one is having the NLNVP.DLL issue. Why did this problem return in a later release?
We are at the point where we narrowed it down to rebuilt or new Windows 7 machines and we have to disable the local auto-protect feature to stop the insertion into the notes.ini every time and have the Lotus Notes client run successfully.
I put the old red box of death image in for fun
