IdoNotes Episode 115 - HP Data Vault and the new studio

You can also watch the video in full HD on YouTube.
In this episode I do a an overview and walkthrough the installation of the HP StorageWorks (Data Vault) X310. The server comes with:
- 1TB hard drive
- 2GB of RAM
- Dual core processor
- Windows Home Server installed
- 3 open bays
- 4 USB ports for external drives
- 1 external eSATA port
The setup took only a few minutes to walk through and it must be initially performed on a Windows workstation. It has automatic backup ability of machines on your network, including Mac.
I turned off the automatic backups as I used a Windows VM for the install and then hooked it up as public access on the network to store and stream video and music. It also has the ability and options to be a iTunes Server.
It has been extremely quiet and performing great over the wired network (no wireless included). At this point I will start adding more drives and increasing the storage for the studio.
If you are looking to expand your home network, I would look into the HP StorageWorks (Data Vault) X310.
Thanks to Carl for pointing it out and the supplir for getting it sent over. The links above are Amazon affiliate links.
