IdoNotes (and sleep)

by Chris Miller at 01:41:36 PM on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
We were in a meeting today with the VP of Global Sales for Lotus and he reiterated an announcement that they are providing 50% off for gap licensing in Sametime Advanced, Lotus Connections and Quickr.

What that basically means is that if you have only 500 Quickr licenses, but 5,000 Lotus Notes licenses, the 4500 difference can be purchased at 50% off.

I mentioned this to our sales director and if this is an official comment from IBM then it could a good way to try and squeeze out some more sales from our customers even though people can probably get more of a discount out of IBM at this time of year.

Who did you speak to at IBM so we can validate this?

    Thanks

    Ben

@Ben - this is what I got back..

Below are 3 significant pricing plays for 4Q. Please read the information below. If you have any questions, please contact me. Please note a couple of things...these plays REQUIRE pre-approval. That means that you should NOT offer these to the customer without engaging the IBM team. Also, the discounts do not need to be the entire amount. For example, you may offer a 40% discount on the Portal or Close the Gap instead of 50%. That is even more reason to work with the IBM team. You don't want to offer 40% when they are offering a 30% or 45% discount. You can also use this in your negotiating with the customer.

Please let us know what we can do to increase your sales in 4Q.

Title: Buy Lotus Forms for up to 40% off when you already own FileNet P8 eForms

Objective: Enable existing customers of Filenet P8 eForms to purchase Lotus Forms at a reduced price without having to trade-in their P8 eForms licenses.

Offer: Lotus Forms Server is available at up to a 40% discount off entitled pricing, to existing customers of Filenet P8 eForms. There is no limit on purchase quantities.

Conditions: Execution is via special bid.; All purchases must be made by December 31, 2008; Requires pre-approval by offering manager

    Title: Q4 Portal Play

Description: 50% off provided for purchases with a min requirement of 400PVU; 25% discount option provided for smaller customers with a minimum purchase of 200 PVUs.

Objective: Drive incremental purchases and larger initial deal sizes of our base Portal offerings (Portal Server, Portal Enable, Portal Extend).

Offer: Customer must purchase a minimum of 400 PVUs of IBM WebSphere Portal Server, Portal Enable or Portal Extend (see “Pricing” section for the eligible offerings) to receive up to a 50% discount OR Customer must purchase a minimum of 200 PVUs of IBM WebSphere Portal Server, Portal Enable or Portal Extend (see “Pricing” section for the eligible offerings) to receive up to a 25% discount

Conditions: Execution is via special bid.; All purchases must be made by December 31, 2008; Tracking by Brian Chaput

Title: “Close the Advanced Collaboration Seat GAP!” Play - IBM Lotus Quickr or IBM Lotus Connections or IBM Lotus Sametime Advanced

Description: To Encourage Notes / Domino customers to increase their deployment of IBM Lotus Quickr, IBM Lotus Connections, and/or IBM Lotus Sametime Advanced to match their enterprise mail solution. And to encourage customers of Filenet to match their deployment of IBM Lotus Quickr.

Objective: Encourage “full deployment” of IBM Lotus Quickr, IBM Lotus Connections, and/or IBM Lotus Sametime Advanced within Notes shops; And Quickr within Filenet/Content Manager install base.

Offer: When an existing or a new customer of both Notes and Quickr or Connections or Sametime Advanced or Filenet and Quickr “closes the gap” entirely (difference between Notes seats and Quickr or Connections seats or Sametime Advanced or Filenet and Quickr) the customer receives up to 50% off of Entitled price on the incremental Quickr, Connections and/or Sametime Advanced seats purchased. List of applicable Notes and Filenet part numbers maintained by Quickr Offering manager.

Conditions: Execution is via special bid.; All purchases must be made by December 31, 2008; Requires pre-approval by offering manager

This will take far more time than I have today. I will start with I was born and still live in St. Louis, MO. No beach/ocean/coast isn't the best. But with the travel I make up for it.
